A page for readers from Widowed Village
You do not need to match to belong.
You came from the Widowed Village book library. Thank you for opening this.
The book is in their library because Soaring Spirits read it first.
Who Soaring Spirits are, in case you arrived here first
Soaring Spirits International is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that builds peer support for widowed people, run on the idea that the people who understand widowhood best are other widowed people. It began when two women who had both been widowed met through a distant family connection. They describe themselves as inclusive and non-denominational, and they use a deliberately broad definition of the word widowed: any person who has experienced the death of a spouse or partner.
Widowed Village is their online community, and it holds the book library you may have come from. Camp Widow is the in-person side of it, which they describe as part conference, part retreat and part reunion with great friends. It runs in several cities, and it welcomes widowed people of any gender, race, religion, age or sexual orientation. Alongside those sit the Widow’s Voice blog, a pen pal programme, regional social groups, a programme for the newly widowed, and their Resilience Center.
If you are reading this book because somebody died, their rooms are worth more than my pages. Go there first. The book will still be here.

About the book
Perfectly Unmatched is a 48 page illustrated fable for adults. A sock called Lefty loses the one he was made to match with on laundry day, falls behind the drawers, and reaches The Wholeplace, a town of socks whose lives no longer fit the rules of the drawer. It reads in about twenty minutes.
What it does not do
- It never tells Lefty to move on, and it never says time heals.
- It does not call anyone half of anything, or promise a replacement.
- It is not therapy, and it does not claim to treat grief.
What changes in the story is not the loss. The loss stays. What grows is the life around it, and the number of people who make room.
“I am still whole, and perfectly unmatched.”
